"By the time you blink it's too late!"
As human beings our natural curiosity causes us to ask certain questions as life rushes past. "How can I hold on to this moment?" "How can I share this with others?" "What keepsake can I take with me into my future?"
It's your life. Your accomplishment. Your past. Your present. Your future. It's your family. Your friends. Your passion. Your fire. Your desire. It's what you have created with and for those you love. This is your time and your place.
You mark those important moments in your mind and they come back to you. The feel of the satin in your wedding dress. The smell of fresh flowers. The sound of laughter of someone you love. The taste of your favourite food.
You can't put those moments in a bottle - but you can capture an image of them. A reminder to a memory. A shrine for someone sacred to you. A memento of a moment that will last through the ages.
When you stop and consider the important aspects of your life - be those family, professional achievements, creations and inventions or anything else that puts a spring in your step or a smile on your face - you will come to understand how important it is to commemorate those moments. The magic of that time, that place, can be captured. Eternal reminders of the perfection. The uniqueness of your moment in a form you can share with the world. Bottle it now before it slips away.
Warning: Time/Place Photography isn't for everyone!
Time/Place Photography is devoted to capturing a vision. Not everyone has a passion that moves them through life. A select group of people have a reason to live and learn, to breath and be, a driving force arising from their past - manifesting in the present - becoming a future. Time/Place Photography is about merging your devotion to your perfection with my devotion to capturing an image true to you.
Time/Place Photography is not about technical perfection.
The reality of life is imperfection and in that imperfection is where the perfection of life is found. Think about it for a moment. I'll wait. Don't you laugh at some of your past mistakes? Might there be some song you can't stand yet triggers a cherished memory? Are the people in your life perfect? Of course not. Yet don't you love them in spite of - even because of - their imperfections? If you cleansed the flaws from those people you hold in your heart would they be the same? You know they wouldn't. What would be left behind are stale, flat imitations.
Time/Place Photography doesn't create imitations. Time/Place Photography doesn't Photoshop your moment until your skin looks plastic and your eyes are unnaturally white. You are not a doll. You are not possessed by Satan.
Yes you read that right. Time/Place Photography does not digitally manipulate the soul out of your photographs.
Your life isn't airbrushed - your photographs shouldn't be.
Time/Place Photography is participatory.
Only you know what star you steer by. I can't plop you in front of a backdrop and create an image that shines with your unique light. The world is our stage. I'm the director and you are the writer. During the interview process you have to guide me so I can focus my creative efforts on your authenticity.
A Time/Place Portrait can't happen without you.
There are no packages to choose from. Did your life come in a package? Are you wrapped in cellophane? Do you want to pick from A, B or C? No you don't and you know it.
There are no backdrops to stand in front of. No studio for you to pose in. You are not a poseur. We go to the place that conveys a sense of you.
There are no preconceived notions. This is a playground. It's an open forum where we try anything twice.
Portraiture as an art - not an afterthought.
A portrait session with Time/Place requires three steps.
1. We meet and discuss the project to determine:
Is Time/Place right for you?
Are you right for Time/Place?
What concepts do you have for the portrait and what can we add to that.
What image do you want to convey?
What emotions do you want to capture?
What will the portrait be used for?
Where will it be displayed?
Who will see it?
What locations might we use and why those locations?
Any other relevant questions we discover along the way.
Please allow one hour for this session even though it might not take that long.
2. The actual photography session. That's where we work the magic and have fun doing it. Having fun is part of the creative process and therefore required. Bring your own music if you like. I love shooting to music and your music is the best for you.
3. Review of the images. We'll get together again to review the images and decide which photographs in what format and presentation.
Now that you're convinced there is one last thing you want to know before contacting Time/Place Photography. How much is this going to cost? Go to the Time/Place Photography pricing page for details but the short answer is $300.
Aren't there any packages to choose from? Not with Time/Place. We covered that already. You decided your life is not a package. $300 covers the cost of the planning interview, shoot and follow up interview. How many photographs do I take for $300? As many as I can. As many as I must. As many as you need to tell your story. How long will I be on location for $300? As long as it takes. How many locations will we visit for $300? As many as we can and want to - at least within reason. We only have so much energy after all.
"What about prints?"
There are no package deals here either. In the follow up interview you will decide which images you want to see in print and in what format then I'll provide you with pricing. Nearly anything can be done thanks to modern technology. There is a wide variety of print sizes, paper quality and framing options to choose from.
"Isn't $300 plus the cost of prints a bit much?"
For some people it is. Only you can go inside and find the answer to that question for yourself. Only you can ask yourself "What is the experience of creating a Time/Place Portrait worth to me? Is my life worth that experience?" Only you can know the value and answer the question.
"What if my photographs are terrible?"
Sometimes it happens. Things just might not work out. Technology goes wrong. The forces of nature conspire against us. Circumstances cascade out of control. If we agree the images do not meet our collective standards we will do a second shoot. Travel and other additional fees may still apply the second time, the $300 session fee does not.
"What do I do now?"
Contact me! The first step makes the difference in the future. You've learned that from all your past success. I am anxious to work with you in the creative process. Let's make it happen!
How can you contact me? Good question.
